Narrator whose love of audiobooks was born after a dreadful accident
I have always loved stories, loved reading them, loved creating them for my friends. I have also loved using my voice. At University, I managed to get into a band as the lead singer, and following OK success I moved down to London.
One Sunday afternoon, I was cycling home from the gym, about to get ready for a rehearsal with the band I was in. On this clear day, my life would change. A bus started to over take me as I rode along, only the driver didn't actually see me. He moved closer to me, and I thought I would simply fall off to the side. However I didn't fall to the side when the bus forced my bike sideways, I was pulled under the bus, which then ran over me.
I survived, obviously, but in hospital I was told I may well be paralysed. I had suffered a broken neck, back, pelvis, ribs, and shoulder, and punctured both my lungs. It was during my stay in hospital, a total of 10 weeks, that I plugged myself into audiobooks. and this is where I realised how gifted, and how powerful audiobook narrators could be.
I was not paralysed, in fact after hard work and a dedication to my physio, I went on to compete in two triathlons and have ridden in three Ride 100 events across London. Fast forward 25 years and now I am an audiobook narrator, and it is my hope to be able to transport listeners into other worlds. Be they a romantic world, a thrilling world, a funny world....or simply a world other than their own as I was.
I hope I do that. I want to improve, and I want to continue to love audio, both as a reader and a listener.
Now then, time for my physio...Oh not for any lingering affects from my bus accident, no. From breaking my leg skiing earlier this year. Accident prone? Me? Hmmmmm
