With a Japanese mother and an American father, I grew up bilingual, and Japanese culture has always been a significant part of my life. I even studied and performed the Japanese theatre arts of Noh drama (now the world’s oldest surviving form of theatre) and Kyogen comedy for three years with the Theatre of Yugen in San Francisco. This is why I have a special love for narrating Japanese and Japanese American stories, such as the Airi Sano series by Zoe Tokushige and the Momo Arashima series by Misa Sugiura.
