Description
About Janina

Janina Edwards is a native of Chicago, IL, and a graduate of New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, Acting Program. She lived in New York City for 11 years, soaking in the language and rhythms of African and West Indian people in Bed-Stuy. She has lived in Atlanta for the past 24 years, swimming in the swagger and sway of the south. As a result, she excels at portraying believable and compelling characters of African Americans and other people of the African Diaspora, plus other English speaking cultures (for example, West Indian, or Yoruba). "I love to narrate audiobooks of all kinds, but my mission ... more is to give a voice to stories, messages, and writers that reflect authentic stories of people of color, and/or humanist and yogic principles. Through my work, I want to give voice to the change I want to see in the world." Detailed in her CV, Janina has recorded for respected publishers such as Brilliance Audio, Simon & Schuster, Blackstone, Deyan Audio, Beacon Press, Audible Studios, Dreamscape, Harper, John Marshall Media, Hachette and others. Janina primarily in her home studio which utilizes a Mac Book Pro laptop, Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 interface, Neumann T-103 microphone. The booth is treated with Auralex foam., She prefers Adobe Audition as audio editor and DAW. Beyond her audiobook work, Janina shines in elearning and explainer voiceovers, and industrial narration. For 15 years, she made her living as a successful professional grant proposal writer working with arts non-profits in Atlanta-including the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Theatrical Outfit, the Atlanta Ballet and others. Janina’s eclectic background includes 5 years in the New York and Chicago Santeria communities where she was initiated. She is a former dancer (African Folkloric, Modern, Belly Dance) and former amateur long distance runner, having completed the Chicago Marathon twice and the Georgia Half Marathon 3 times. Janina was the Props Manager for the Tony Award winning Alliance Theatre, the southeast’s largest regional theatre, for 5 years. She left that job to start her own company (JustWrite! Communications & Proposals) and give time and attention to her then 12-year old daughter. Presently, Janina is a member of Kashi Atlanta urban yoga ashram. She is a certified yoga instructor (300 hours), specializing in Restorative Yoga. At Kashi she teaches yoga and meditation, and she volunteers as a yoga teacher in the local jail, and teaches at an addiction recovery center. She also sings ‘kirtan’ and plays the violin. Janina loves the outdoors and is an avid hiker and kayaker. less
